A four-hour window is tight for an island, but it's enough to get a real taste of Koh Larn if you're disciplined about it. The killer mistake is trying to do too much — hopping beaches, queuing for watersports — and ending up stressed about the return boat. The winning move is to do less, well.

The 4-hour plan

  • 0:00 — Be at Bali Hai Pier early and take the first available boat. A speedboat (~15–20 min) buys you time over the public ferry; worth it on a tight clock.
  • 0:30 — Land and go straight to one beach. Tawaen if you want everything to hand; Samae if you'll trade 10 minutes' transfer for clearer water.
  • 0:45 — Swim, claim a lounger, and just enjoy the water — this is the point.
  • 2:00 — Seafood lunch at a beachfront table. Confirm prices, eat well, cool off.
  • 3:00 — Last swim or a quick photo, then head for the pier.
  • 3:30 — Be at the pier with a buffer. Do not cut the return fine.

If you're on a cruise with a fixed all-aboard time, build in a generous safety margin and strongly consider a pre-arranged speedboat both ways so you're never at the mercy of a ferry queue.

What to skip on a short visit

Skip beach-hopping, skip the scooter (no time, and the hills aren't a four-hour activity), and skip lengthy watersports negotiations. One beach, one swim, one lunch is the right scope for four hours.

Tip: Carry cash, wear your swimwear under your clothes so you're in the water within minutes of landing, and set a phone alarm for your 'leave the beach' time.
