Possible and peaceful on the flats — but the island's hills are brutal; most people scoot.

Cycling Koh Larn is a romantic idea that the island's topography quietly punishes. The flat lanes around Na Baan and Ta Yai are genuinely pleasant on two wheels — quiet, scenic, low-stress — but the moment you want to cross to Samae, Tien or the south, you hit climbs that are steep, exposed and brutally hot in the midday sun. Fit, keen cyclists will enjoy the challenge and the empty roads; everyone else will end up pushing the bike uphill and wishing they'd rented a scooter. Where bikes are available, rental is cheap, but go in clear-eyed about the gradients.

How it works

Rent a bike where available (mainly around the village), carry water, and stick to the flatter lanes unless you're fit enough for the hills. Start early to beat the heat.

Who it's for

Fit, independent travellers who enjoy a hot, hilly ride and quiet roads. Not for casual pedallers expecting a flat seaside cruise.

What to expect

Lovely quiet flats near the village, then serious climbs to reach the far beaches. Heat is the real challenge.

Safety

Steep descents and mixed traffic — helmet on, brakes checked, and don't overcommit to hills in the heat.

Cycling FAQ

Quick answers

Can you cycle around Koh Larn?

You can, and the flat lanes near the village are lovely, but the hills to the far beaches are steep and hot. Unless you're fit and keen, a scooter, ATV or songthaew is much easier.
